I was looking through one of the major muscle magazines the other day and I came across an article that really sparked my attention. The basic summary of the article was that the writer believed one of the major keys to success in building a lean, hard, muscular and strong body was to always cut every workout short of a maximum effort. His exact words were, "I always leave the gym knowing that I will have something left for tomorrow."
After reading the article I felt like I wanted to puke, " . . . leave the gym knowing that I will have something left for tomorrow." Are you kidding me? THERE IS NO TOMORROW! What this guy is preaching is the exact opposite of my personal philosophy.
I never leave any gas in the tank. Each workout is balls to wall, all out maximum effort. Leave something for tomorrow? How do you even know there will be a tomorrow? Getting the opportunity to train with weights in the gym is a privilege, not a right. I approach each and every workout as if it might be my last. I suggest you do the same.
I admire and respect those people who seize each day as an opportunity to do something great, unlike those people who plod through each day as a grind simply to just get by. The people I look up to and try to emulate live life like there is no tomorrow, because when you get right down to it, there isn't.
Don't slip into the gray abyss of mediocrity. Strive for more. Push yourself each and every day. Fill yourself with positive thoughts and surround yourself with positive influences. Avoid at all costs the naysayers and haters who fill themselves with and exude onto others negativity and fear.
Everyone has a dream. You might not reveal it to others and sometimes you don't even reveal it to yourself. But you know, deep down, it is in there.
Negative people may snidely remark that you are too small, or too fat, too slow or too weak. They may say you are too poor, the wrong color, the wrong sex or that you are too old. Shake them off. Their opinion means nothing. The only thing that matters is what you believe about yourself.
Grab onto that dream of yours and never let it go. Fight, scratch, claw, endure, overcome and never stop trying to move forward. Dreams do come true, if you truly believe and you never give up.
Dream the dream and then strive to achieve it. Never give up. Hold onto your dream as your most cherished possession and use it to fuel your impetus to reach your goals.
So let's get after it. It is time to go, time to fire. Let's set this baby off! The time is now. It has to be, because when you get right down to it -- there is no tomorrow.
Train Hard!
